Prayer for Vocations Chalice

A vocation is God's unique invitation, addressed to individual persons in which a free response is expected. This response is not a single act, but a life-long process, a journey of faith. We do not "have" a vocation; we discover how we "are" our vocation as we journey through life led by the Spirit.

As baptised Christians each of us is called to assist others to discover their vocation as we have been assisted on our faith journeys. Each of us is called to help make others aware of their personal richness, talents and human value, opening their eyes to the variety of lifestyles and then ministries within the Church.

About the Program

Each week, a family or parishioner is given a chalice at Mass to take home and pray for vocations. The chalice has a prayer book, a prayer for vocations card, and a guest book in which parishioners are encouraged to write about their experience.

Prayer for Vocations

Provident God,
You bless us with the gift of Jesus
who cares for us as a good shepherd.

By our baptism we are anointed and sent
to continue the mission of Jesus

Guide your people to prayerfully choose
a way of life that best serves you with their gifts.

Empower us by your Holy Spirit,
to live dedicated lives
as married and single people,
as deacons, priests and religious.

United with Jesus, our shepherd,
we are one with you now and forever. Amen
